Beowulf
I was at Barnes and Noble the other day looking for a few books, see 7 Day Detox and Death by Powerpoint; and was walking up to the register when I saw a table full of books with a sale sign above it. Tons of great reprints like stuff and periods from Sun Tu's Art of War to Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment (one of my favorite books/author).
The books are printed on this great, almost parchment type of paper that just begs you to pick it up and feel it. I started flipping through one I haven't read in a minute. Arguably one of the best english translated poems of it's time about the Danes, in particularly, Beowulf. The story in and of itself is great. It pulls you in from the start and holds you tightly, till you absolutely have to put it down and get back to work cause your lunch break was over 20 minutes ago.
Definitely an intense read with its graphic visuals it presents and engrossing storyline. Plus the fact that it really is a very short story, it can be read in less than three days if you can't get to it one sitting. Not to mention the fact that it was on sale for $7 and with my Barnes and Noble membership card, it actually came out to just on the other side of $5. Can't complain about that.
All said and done this is a book that EVERY GUY SHOULD READ!!!! Granted, yes, chicks can read it too but come on...this is a manly book with lots of testosterone through and through and little estrogen in it.
